Thinking about lifting sagging skin without surgery?

A thread lift might be just what you need. It’s a quick, minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny threads to lift and tighten your skin—giving you a natural, refreshed look. A PDO thread lift, for example, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that lifts, sculpts, and tightens the tissues of the face, neck, or body. It enhances contour, lifts, and repositions tissues that are either beginning to sag or are desired to be at a higher position—such as elevated cheekbones. Feather-like threads with tiny projections, made from materials used safely in surgery for decades, are inserted under the skin and used to lift, sculpt, and rejuvenate the treated area.

What Are the Threads in a Thread Lift Made Of?

Absorbable Threads

  1. PDO – PDO or Polydioxanone threads are the most popular threads in PDO thread lift procedures.. They are the fastest to absorb, they stimulate collagen with less volumizing effect and offer less downtime with even fewer complications. Results usually last 12 to 24 months. Used for mild to moderate laxity.
  2. PLLA – Poly-L-Lactic Acid or PLLA threads are longer-lasting and provide a more pronounced and sustained volumizing effect. While they are more expensive, they can easily last 2+ years and are thus suitable for more significant laxity (meaning sagging skin) and ptosis (meaning the drooping or falling of the upper eyelid). A great choice for clients who are okay with some downtime and want gradual improvement.
  3. PCL – Polycaprolactone or PCL is the newest on the market. Used in long-lasting fillers and regenerative medicine, it offers the longest-lasting, superior lift and volumizing through biostimulation (meaning, treatments that activate the skin’s natural ability to repair and rejuvenate itself) Suitable for deeper lines and more significant ptosis. These  can remain intact for up to 3 years and when it does break down, it becomes nontoxic monomers naturally eliminated by the body. Excellent choice for male clients.

Non-Absorbable Threads

There are a few options on the market. However, natural aging prevents non-absorbable threads from offering results that last indefinitely or significantly longer than absorbable ones. Side effects and downtime tend to be greater. They may be a useful addition to facial surgery. So absorbable threads are the best available choice, for now.

Different Shapes of Threads?

Yes. Threads do come in different shapes and they vary mostly by  function. Here are a few:

Lifting Threads

These allow repositioning and holding of tissues. Modern versions vary in direction, density, and how the cogs are made (cut vs. molded).

Biolifting Threads

Smooth and thin, these build a fine collagen-stimulating mesh under the skin. They can be used alone or with lifting threads.

Filler Threads

Usually coiled, these can enhance the lip border, fill lines, or accentuate features such as brows.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO thread lift is the best solution for you if you are:

  • Someone desiring rejuvenation for mild to moderate facial laxity and aging
  • Someone not ready for or not requiring surgical rejuvenation
  • Someone seeking a minimally invasive, in-office procedure with little downtime

But do bear in mind that caution should be used in cases of recurrent skin infections or bleeding disorders.

What to Expect During Your PDO Thread Lift Visit and Procedure

We begin with a detailed discussion of your aesthetic goals. You’re invited to bring questions, photos, and inspiration. By the end of your consultation, you’ll understand what outcome is reasonable in terms of improvement and longevity. Results vary by individual, and thread placement is customized based on your facial features and goals. Pre-procedure photos are typically taken during your consultation to assist in planning.

The Procedure Steps

  • Cleanse and prep treatment area.
  • Inject numbing medication at thread entry points and along lifting vectors (planned directions in which threads are inserted)
  • Insert threads and apply antibiotic ointment and the procedure is complete.

 Pre- and Post-Treatment Care

  • Stop NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and blood-thinning supplements 1–2 weeks prior to minimize bruising. Anticoagulants will be addressed during consultation.
  • Focus skincare on gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and consistent broad-spectrum sunscreen use.
  • After the procedure, sleep on your back with your head elevated for at least one week.
  • Avoid strenuous activity, facial massage, lasers, or excessive facial movement for 7+ days. No biting large foods—small bites and small smiles for about a week.
  • Continue gentle skincare and strict sun protection.
  • Required follow-ups at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months—or as needed.

FAQ Section:

Is the PDO thread lift procedure painful?

Numbing injections may feel a bit uncomfortable. After the treatment, soreness is common but generally well tolerated.

How much time should I take off work?

None for cheek lifts. A couple of days may be needed for lower face, neck, or brow lift. Mesh procedures using non-lifting threads can cause more swelling and usually require downtime.

Can a thread lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Botox is often combined with thread lifts. Filler can be used after the threads settle. Dermal boosters can enhance results and longevity.

How long does a PDO thread lift last?

It can vary based on the type of thread lift you choose but normally we can expect it to last for around 2 years.

Is thread lift better than fillers?

Neither can be considered as better than the other. If your concern is volume loss and contouring then go with filler but if your concern is lifting mild-to-moderate sagging and laxity then go for thread lifts.

Are thread lifts safe?

Absolutely! It’s a low-risk procedure, so most adults can have it.

Is there any age limit for thread lifts?

No there is not. However it has been observed that the thread lifts work exceptionally well on people aged between 30 and 55.
